SNAP in the News and other stuff you don't want to miss
We've been busy and so have our supporters! See what's happening at SNAP and what else is going on that you should know about.
SNAP Supporter Dr Milton Gee Honored for 30 Years in Practice
SNAP's mission would be impossible to fulfill without the generosity of many local veterinarians who offer low-cost spay/neuter to residents. Dr Milton Gee is one
of the North County vets subsidizing spay/neuter surgeries so they are affordable to low-income families. The photo to the right was taken at Dr Gee's surprise party
recognizing his 30 years in practice. It shows Dr Gee and his wife accepting an award for his years of dedicated service to ending pet overpopulation.
SNAP in Red, White, and Blue
SNAP was among the many community groups and organizations attending this year's 4th of July Parade through downtown Oceanside. The theme was
"Freedom Days." This was a great opportunity to show off the Neuter Scooter and raise awareness of the need to spay and neuter our
pets. As you can see SNAP was featured in the Coast News on July 4! To see more photos visit snapeventpics.site.shutterfly.com

Free Spay/Neuter for Cats: for A Litter Free Coronado
PAWS of Coronado announces a new program, "A Litter Free Coronado" to reduce the unwanted kitten population in Coronado. This Spay & Neuter program is
available to all cats residing within the city limits of Coronado. If you own a cat or are a caretaker for a stray/feral cat that needs to be spayed or neutered, and the
cost of this procedure has prevented you from having it done, please call PAWS Program Coordinator Louise at 619-435-8247. Leave your name and telephone number and mention the
"Litter Free Coronado" program. The PAWS Program Coordinator will return your call as soon as possible and ask a few simple questions to verify eligibility for
the program. Proof of residency is required. If qualified, a voucher good for 60 days will be sent for one spay or neuter at no cost. These services will be provided by
two veterinarians in Coronado: Coronado Veterinary Hospital and Crown Veterinary Hospital. For more information visit

Union Tribune Article: "Full to the Brim"
With the economic downturn and "kitten season" all area animal shelters are overcrowded. "We are up 1,700 animals more than this time last year," said
Dawn Danielson, director of the county's Department of Animal Services, which serves the unincorporated areas of the county, San Diego and 6 other cities. "There has
been a steady decline over 5 years, and this is the first year we now have an increase," said Julie Bank of the North County Humane Society and SPCA which provides
animal control for Oceanside and Vista. "One of the main reasons is that it's that time of year, puppy and kitten season. When people don't spay and neuter their
animals, we get lots of babies." Read the article
We at SNAP are in low income communities providing spay/neuter services several days per week. We see how dire the financial situation is for many people and recently
it has gotten even worse. For the first time since SNAP was created, people are calling us to cancel appointments because they can't even afford SNAP's hugely discounted fees ($20
for cats, $30 for dogs, $20 for Pits, Chows and Rotties). Of course, we tell them not to cancel. SNAP will underwrite the surgery and hopefully if they can afford to in
the future, our clients will send a donation so we can help others. In fact, recently at our City Heights clinic, a woman gave us a $20 bill and thanked us for fixing her
cat for free a couple of months previously.
Did you know you can sponsor a spay or neuter for a pet whose family can't afford even $20 or $30 right now? Please consider helping.

SNAP on TV
In May, SNAP's Neuter Scooter was featured on KOCT's Inside Oceanside. SNAP Co-founder and Volunteer Executive Director Candy Schumann explains our history and focus. Our
Director of Education, Dorell Sackett, talks about the education and outreach programs that bring SNAP's message to the public. Take a look inside the Neuter Scooter and

10th Annual Bowling for the Animals a Huge Success
A BIG THANKS to all who gathered sponsors, volunteered, donated and bowled at the 10th Annual Bowling for the Animals in April! Over $20,000 was raised to support the efforts of
SNAP and the Feral Cat Coalition. And those who know our organizations know that we will squeeze a dollar out of every dime raised to push forward with pet
overpopulation reduction. Spay and Neuter! Spay and Neuter! And don't forget to check out photos from B4A 2008 at

Humane Society of the United States presents Certificate of Appreciation to SNAP
This spring, the Humane Society of the United States presented a Certificate of Appreciation to SNAP Spay Neuter Action Project of San Diego for "saving the lives of
animals through promotion of spay/neuter during Spay Day USA." SNAP also received front page coverage in HSUS' KIND News for SNAP's education and clinic program in
Lemon Grove for Spay Day. Thanks to the generosity of animal lovers who made an optional donation when they entered their pet's photo in the Spay Day USA 2008 Pet Photo
Contest, SNAP was awarded $887.55 to assist with spay/neuter services.
Bucky Bucks: Free Spay for Mothers of Unwanted Kittens
Soon, SNAP will be launching the BUCKY BUCKS program sponsored by SNAP Cofounder Diane Calkins and her husband, Chris, in memory of their black cat, Bucky. Free
"Fix Coupons" will be distributed by SNAP to animal control shelters. The coupons will be given to people who surrender kittens to the shelters so the adult cats
can be fixed on the Neuter Scooter to prevent additional litters. This is one more program to provide incentives and assistance to reduce the numbers of unwanted animals
in our area. Check our website for details after June 25th.
